Hibizcus 1.2 is now available on the Mac App Store. This update brings one of the most requested features — support for TTC and Variable fonts — along with several improvements across the tools.
TTC and Variable Font Support
You can now drag and drop TTC and Variable font files as the main or comparison font in all the viewers. Hibizcus will list the available instances in each file, letting you pick the weights and styles you want to inspect. If your TTC has five different weights, you can examine any of them — clusters, words, and strings — right from the sidebar picker.
TraceViewer Now Shows Feature Names
TraceViewer previously showed only the lookup number during trace output, which meant you had to cross-reference it yourself. With the updated HarfBuzz library (now at 12.3.2), TraceViewer displays the OpenType feature each lookup belongs to, making it much easier to follow what’s happening during shaping.
Toolbar Font Reload
The font reload button now appears directly in the toolbar. No more switching back to the Fonts tab just to reload — it’s one click away from wherever you are.
Other Improvements
- Horizontal scroll in String Viewer for inspecting longer strings without clipping.
- Hibizcus now opens a blank document on startup instead of the file dialog, so you can get started right away.
- Fixed an issue with multiple cell selection in grids.
- Additional bug fixes and improvements.
Update Now
